"...censoring non-pornographic gay and lesbian searches..." So presumably, pornographic searches would still be OK? Tsch-tsch.

Still, by doing this, it must be a real bitch trying to find out details of the next public hanging or beheading. Unless you're in the know, of course.

Let's be honest here, the Internet is WAY bigger than anyone had expected it to grow. Now even the governments can't control it. You might get some local restrictions imposed, but anyone with half a brain knows how to get around firewalls and blocks using IP spoofs etc. The governments can huff and puff and complain all they like, but this genie is well and truly out of it's bottle.

The original texts of the Arabian Nights wouldn't stand a chance under these countries' policies. But then, Islam under the Caliphate was a much more relaxed business.

Even countries like Australia are demanding restrictions on content. The internet has been a boon for all minorities, it has allowed us to interact and to criticise and to connect and orgnise. I remember how difficult it was for me as a young gay man to get information or originally to know that there was even anyone else out there like me. Now I can find like minded individuals easily. It is to our disadvantage that anything to do with our sexuality is considered adult content and filtered away and those who hate us know this.

Can't see it as a surprise. Google did the same for China. I'd be surprised if other search engines were any different. It's not going to stop Gay Arabs or Chinese from finding out about themselves and probably no more dangerous than it already is for them. Just a shame these companies run scared of these countries.

I don't think people searching for info on gay rights would be doing an image search...
